it band treatment suggestions

Message posted by: Terence H.

Does anyone have any tips on treating an IT band injury? I caught it early and it was likely triggered (according to my doctor) by increasing mileage too quickly and running on a slanted beach.

My physical therapist is also a triathlete and has been very helpful, but I am curious what other folks out there have done to successfully treat this injury.

During therapy I was introduced to the foam roller and deep tissue massage (absolute torture). He’s also having me do a lot of exercises to strengthen the stabilization muscles in my knee, as well as teaching me good dynamic stretching techniques.

Also, I’m curious about other people’s timeline for recovery, and how long it took to build up mileage following their injury.
