first time i’ve been scared for my im

today was the first time i have truly been scared to compete in my iron distance race. the race, Vineman, is in about a month and takes place in northern California. fortunately i am traveling in LA right now for work and get a little taste of the heat before race day, but i went out for a 7 miler and only finished 3. the heat really got to me. i felt great for about the first mile, but the next two i felt like puking and decided to quit early. online, the weather says its only 81…feels hotter.

is this something i should be worried about? i live in portland and usually run when it is much cooler out. i would hate for all of my training to go to waste on raceday if it is too hot and my body cant handle it.

thanks for reading. im just frustrated and scared. needed a place to vent
