Hi, I live in Zomba Malawi, and have some free time so am planning to train for a triathlon next summer in the U.S. The bike I have here is a Giant Boulder Mountain Bike with enormous tires, and I don’t have much chance to get a better one. Does anyone have a good sense of how times on this bike would translate to times on a decent (say$1000) second hand road bike for racing? I have only been out three times, but yesterday I went 30k in an hour. It seems to me that if I could do 40 I would be quite competitive in my age group (I’m 48) but I don’t know how much time to discount for the quality of the bike. 2%? 8? Or is it a silly question? Thanks for any thoughts, Sasha
