Seriously. first day back swimming at the school pool, and the place was overflowing with 18 year old girls giggling about Michael Phelps. I thought I was going to pass from all the perfume, then one of them ran into me. Some of you guys would have loved it. I didn’t.

dara torres amino acids

Met Dara last week and she gave me the name of the German company where she endorses their amino acids. It works for her! www.fitness-nut.com if anyone is interested.

Seems expensive but they’re 2 for 1 and they’re large containers

Here’s the deal. My husband quit smoking 5 years ago. He immediately gained about 45 pounds.

When we first started dating he had 8% body fat, he was active and strong and healthy (even though he was smoking…)

He recently found out he has high blood pressure at the age of 38, he’s tired, and I’m having a hard time with the weight gain, especially since I’ve had a baby and am in better shape now then I’ve ever been because we promised each other when we got married that we wouldn’t let ourselves go.

So last night I laid down the law (honesty in our marraige is a very blunt afair as we aren’t super sensative…) I told him he needs to lose weight and we are quiting drinking!! He of course had A LOT of excuses about lack of time to exercise so one of my comments was

“People train for Ironmans with less time.”

He assured me,

“You will not find anyone with a full time job that has time to train for an Ironman.”

SO…

Prove him wrong and help me get my hubby back to his sleek and sexy formal self that I miss TREMENDOUSLY!!

He currently gets up around 5 or 5:30am and gets home around 6pm. I told him he needs to knock it off with the excuses, get his head around it and just do it because he HAS to, for himself, his health, and his son, and of course for me as well.

All you Ironmans and 70.3’s out there with very full time jobs, tell him how it’s done!!

indoor bike training question

Message posted by: Curtis C.

Well, here in Michigan, the indoor bike season isn’t too far away and I’m looking for advice/help on training on an indoor trainer (never ridden on one until I bought my road bike and got fit for it). Recently purchased a Kurt Kinetic Road Machine Trainer with the add-on power computer (which does speed as well, no cadence). I would like to improve my bike fitness and increase my speeds for next year. Is there a basic plan to follow, i.e. long rides with some big gear sprints or try to keep a constant power reading for so long? Are the Spinerval DVDs any good to work out to and helpful? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

quit or don’t quit?

After being in triathlon for several years I have heard several opinions on this subject. Just wonder what you think?

You are in a race and something goes wrong. You get a flat tire in a sprint triathlon or you wreck your bike but it is still rideable in a half or IM distance. What do you do…ride on and finish or quit?

To me the obvious answer is FINISH (if you are physically able). But I have heard some people say they don’t carry tools on long distances or spare tubes on short distances (in the interest of saving weight) and they say if something happens my race is over.

soloist team stock wheels

I have decided on a Cervelo Soloist Team. Thanks to Kevin and other for their help. I am going to pick it up and get fit tonight (I am either a 51 or 48 frame). My final question regarding the bike is the wheels.

The stock wheels on the bike are the Shimano R500 Aero and I have not heard good things about them at all. Others have told me they are disappointed with those wheels and I should think about upgrading. I don’t have the $$ to consider Zipps or anything like that but would spend a bit more money to upgrade (provided the LBS will give me a credit for the stock wheels) if it would provide a significant benefit. Any thoughts on whether an upgrade is necessary and, if so, what wheels should I consider?

Note: I have been told that the Mavic r-sys are great but they may be a bit too much to spend.
