Hey everyone,
I think I have a pinched nerve or bulging disk (or both) in my C7 part of my neck. Has anyone else had this? How long to recover and/or what did you do to fix it. It is driving me crazy. No feeling in my index finger and extreme pain.
Help?

I have been having problems with blisters on my long runs. Whenever I run over 8 miles I end up with huge blisters on both feet. The worst blisters are on my toes (second smallest toe on each foot and the blisters are the size of the entire toe basically). Of course I can’t stop running when I feel heat building up because at that point I am 8 miles from home usually (plus I don’t want to appear to be a wimp to cheryl). I have never had a problem with blisters before and need some help. I have tried several different shoe/sock combinations and nothing seems to work.
Does anyone have any advice on how to deal with the blisters that I have and most importantly how to avoid getting more of them? The shoes that I am wearing are mizunos from road runner sports. I was fitted for the shoes at the store….i traded the first pair that i bought there in because I kept getting blisters on the balls of my feet from my “old” pair.
Thanks for your help. I have one week until my next long run. I really don’t want to start dreading my long runs but I’m in such pain by the end they really aren’t too much fun.
Today I wondered if I should have wrapped my toes in bacon before leaving the house. Or at least put bacon grease on my toes!

I don’t know if anyone read the New York Times article but I wanted to know what others thought. They question whether or not lifting has beneficial effects on athletic performance. I sometimes struggle to fit in weight training and wanted to know what other do and/or thought.
Here is a link to the article:

In preparing for a 70.3 in May, I’m in a part of my training plan that calls for sport-specification. There is a swim-focused week, a bike-focused week, and a run-focused week. Each week includes the other parts as well, but it’s just very heavy on the one sport for one week.
My question: I was sick all this week and barely trained at all (and I already had a rest week last week). I have no problem “eliminating” a week from my plan, but which week to eliminate?
I initially switched this week (the swim week) for the run week, because the Y pool heater is broken all week, and I am already running a 1/2 marathon on Sunday. But then I’ve been sick all week and havent run at all. My weakness is the run, so I think I should keep that week. I’m equally strong (or weak) on the bike and swim, but I have a spin bike at home so those workouts are more convenient than driving to the Y. I’m stuck…cut the bike week or swim week?
(I guess I need to check the OCD posts…hmmm) Thanks for your opinions!

im so silly. i asked my mom and dad for a pair of cycling shoes for my birthday. i wanted shoes that i could go from spin class to my bike (for IF and/or when i get pedals for my bike - see other post lol). well, i thought that the shoe came with whatever was needed to lock the shoe into the pedal. i got the pearl izumi vagabond shoe, and i was shocked that there was nothing there to clip onto anything. haha. what the heck should i get now? i am considering returning them for a pair of triathlon shoes because i read that they are easier to get in and out of and you don’t have to wear socks if they fit right. beside that i don’t think they fit right. are they supposed to be tight or a little forgiving? there seems to be a tad too much toe room in mine…
thanks for helping a silly cycler

i have the greatest husband on earth
right before my first triathlon two years ago he bought me a bike because he didn’t want me to have to use my old thousand pound mountain bike. it was a surprise, and i cried because he believes in me so much!
the bike is a schwinn sport, which he chose on the advice of the bike shop guy based on our budget and my goals. im not out to kill the competition but to mainly beat myself and my own personal records, to always strive to do better. maybe someday i’ll get in it to win it but for now just being able to participate makes me very happy!
the bike was not “fit” to me, but it seems to me like it is a good fit, at least for sprint distance tris which is all i do for now. however, i would like to upgrade a few things on it, like get clipless pedals and maybe a tribar. my question is, would it be worth it to put the money into it? the bike was not expensive (compared to most other road bikes) so i don’t see how it would be a waste.
what do you guys think?

Lots of people announce their bike crashes so I thought I would add to the collection. Here in Northern Calif. we are having warmish weather (65 to 70) which is a welcomed treat. I went out for a ride with a friend on a country road. We were just cruising around 20 mph and approaching a one lane bridge. I was right behind my friend. All of a sudden as he was about to enter the one lane bridge, he realized the car on the other side wasn’t gonna stop so as he saw his life flash in front of him, all he had time to do was slam on his brakes. Then there was me, right behind with no warning that he was stopping, so I slammed into him and we both went down. Lucky for me, he cushioned some of my fall. I did land on my head and sustained a bad whiplash injury but otherwise I am o.k. If a rider is approaching and entering a one lane bridge, shouldn’t the driver stop??? We thought so. Oh well, the old lady (about 80+) is fine but we are both injured.

Anybody doing the Ironman 70.3 in Orlando in May? Anyone done it before? I am looking forward to it, so if you are training for it, or have done it, maybe we could share some information.
