So, what do you think? Is it possible to train for a half Marathon in less than 3 months? I think it just might be.
The holidays have obviously taken its toll on the midsection. The carefree attitude of drinking, eating, and being merry has an ugly side and I’m seeing the reprocussions. If it wasn’t obvious enough, being called “fat” by your punk ass, bean pole brother in law, would be enough to make you get off your ass and do something.
I have started lifting and doing cardio and wasn’t really serious about the Cardio part until last night. A fraternity brother of mine mentioned that I should run the Music City half marathon with him. I said, “I’ll think about it.” Then we went for a run on the treadmill.
I think that a majority of my problem with cardio is that I hate running because I have zero stamina. However, when I ride the bike, I can go for 45 minutes to an hour with no problem. So I asked myself, “Why?” The answer hit me pretty hard. The reason I have no stamina when I run is because I start and try to maintain a pace that is way too fast for my current condition. So if I slow my running down, I might, just might be able to sustain a good pace.
Long story short, I ran 3 miles straight last night in about 30 minutes. I have never run 3 miles straight IN MY LIFE! What a huge boost in encouragement. Then I found this site: http://www.halhigdon.com/halfmarathon/novice.htm
According to this guy, you can train for a half marathon in 3 months as long as you can at least run 3 miles…
I’m still debating, but am leaning towards the “I can do this” attitude / mindset. Thoughts?
