Do I know you guys? Let me introduce myself. My name is Brad “Heax” Heacox, and I work as an evening manager at the Student Rec Center at the University of Memphis. Our basketball team went to the Elite 8 this year, but royally choked on their own shoelaces!
It’s been a very long time, but I see that that is the most common opening line lately, so I don’t feel quite so bad. Training has been minimal. Just enough to stay around 215, and nothing quite extensive. The intensity is rising, since about 3 weeks ago. I’m going to try hard as hell to do a better job for this next triathlon that I did for the last one. Also, I’m going to have plenty of time to try and get ready for a Half Marathon here in Memphis close to the end of December. It’s the St. Jude Marathon/ Half Marathon. That being said, I’ve set up a St. Jude Heroes program on their website that allows me to take donations and send emails and track everthing that I’m doing. You should take a look sometime. I hope everyone else is doing very well, and start thinking about Memphis in May. The band list is amazing this year!! Take care, and here’s to keeping up.

Well folks - I have been absent for quite some time - life has been hectic with the changing of jobs, and the movin to Kansas City and whatnot. Of course, this is no excuse - but, it’s all I have.
Thankfully - I’m going tomorrow to get my membership to 24HourFitness - where they have an indoor lap pool available around the clock. While I’m going to have to miss the June tri in Owensboro, I’m planning on rocking out in the OHT in September - and may try to add another one in this area as I get things going again.
I also want to ‘graduate’ to a full length tri in the near future - maybe this year. Now that I’m here, and working for myself - I can start to really spend some solid time focusing on my fitness (which is one of the big benefits of what I’m doing).
I’d expect posting levels to begin to increase to the level they were at towards the end of last year. The first thing I have to work out is a new schedule - so look for that soon.

Well I did great everyday last week until the weekend. The trip to Alabama killed me. I did get in a good run Saturday morning. I ran all over Tuscaloosa, AL and checked out their town and campus. It is great knowing that I can get out in a town and run anywhere that I want now and site see while doing it. I ran for over an hour that morning just checking out the scenery, and it made for an enjoyable run since I didn’t get bored with the same old scenes.
Now the bad part. I must have ate 5 lbs of chex mix and 10 lbs of chocolate candies, and breakfast wasn’t nutritional either…waffles, muffins, 10 bowls of cereal, etc. I’m sure I put on a few pounds, but the scale said 158 this morning, but the BF was just under 14%. So I put on a couple of pounds of fat. I have realized though that I can burn that fat off a whole lot quicker now if I just get back to my normal life and training. I have been back at this week, but the long run yesterday was a weak run. I think it was the poor nutrition in AL, because I couldn’t even get 2 miles without my calves cramping up…and that isn’t normal for me anymore. I did manage to pull out 6 miles, but I had to stop every lap around campus and stretch my calves out before going another lap.
Hopefully I’ll be good to go tomorrow for my 2nd long run of the week.
How is everyone else?

Well I have been doing great this week. If I could do this every week for the next 2 months I would have the infamous 6 pack soon and be in peak shape. I have watched everything I ate, refused the bad stuff when people ordered like pizza and stuff, and I have hit the gym hard. Now I know if I was a celebrity I could get in their shape, because I have been off this week which makes gym workouts better, eating better, and more time to relax and enjoy it all too.
I leave Friday morning for a trip to Tuscaloosa, AL for work. I’ll be there for 3 days with no time to train, but I have hit it hard this week to take care of that time off.
I have hung out with Toombs (my old roommate in college for internet readers) and his girlfriend from London for the past couple of days. Also, Pauletta, a friend from college that lives in Seattle now came to town and she actually went to the gym with me yesterday. Kinda embarrassing as she took pictures of me as I worked out because she hasn’t seen me since this lifestyle change.
We are talking about going to London and visiting Toombs and his girlfriend this summer. So should be fun times. Well I’m out to eat and get ready for the gym. Oh yeah, I even went to Los yesterday and turned down the cheese dip, chips, and tortillas. I just had the food that comes in the fajitas without all the junk.

Hey guys:
Are any of you still doing that tri in June in Owensboro? I just want to make sure that I’m not going there to do it alone. It’s more fun to do this with others. Like the marathon would be more fun if you all were going to be there, but I have met about 5 girls that are doing it so I plan on WATCHING them run, haha.
As far as training. Same old thing. I lift and run for 20 min 3 days a week and now I’m running an hour on Tues, 1.5 hours on Thu, and 1.5 hours on one of the weekend days. I should bump the 3rd day up to 1.75 hours, but I just can’t make myself run that extra 15 minutes cause I’m bored out of my mind. I’m pretty sure if I can hit the 1.5 hour mark, then I should be able to hit the 2 hour mark I plan on running 13 miles in at the marathon.
I’m about to start tri training again really soon. The weather is getting good enough to ride again and I’ll have to make myself hit the pool. I should be leaps and bounds ahead of my running schedule from last year. I’m really looking forward to the 2nd tri of the year, because then I can really track my progress from last year’s tri.
On a good note. I’m not really weighing much anymore because it fluctuates too much. I could be 150 one day and 160 2 days later and then back at 152 2 more days later. I think it’s from all the running, sweating, and the splurging on food occassionally. I’m more interested in BF, and I haven’t checked that lately. I do know that I bought several small shirts recently, and by George they look pretty good. Still a small pooch, but my chest sticks out further than that pooch. Plus I squeezed into 29 pants the other day, because I loved the style and all they had were 29’s and 36’s. The 36’s I could have fit 2 of me in, so I tried the 29 and I looked like a cowboy with nu%% cutters on. So I’m thinking I’m more the 32 waist speed.
Oh yeah, Pat and Scott my head is now shaved. Well the hair is about 1/4 inch long, sorta like the Brad Pitt cut in Oceans 12. I just wanted to try it this year since my face isn’t that round anymore.
Hope to hear from some of you soon. I’m trying to fit in some time to run and lift over the next couple of days because I have to go home and see Toombs and it’s suppose to be cold on Saturday. I hope I’m able to get out and do my long run on Saturday regardless of the weather.

I got in an email and thought it sounded pretty cool. It’s a 5 mile run/30 mile bike/5 mile run set up. If we did it, we would have to head to Alabama the night before on April 8th. Irondale, Alabama is 5 hours from Murray according to Mapquest…so its probably really 4 hours.
If anyone is interested, let me know. It’s an $84 entry fee before like March 26 and then it goes up. I would be game to do it, because it would still give me a couple of weeks between this and the marathon.

I have really buckled down this week with my eating and working out, and I haven’t gotten on the scale but when I look in the mirror I’m liking what I see. If I could stay with this routine for 2 months and not fall off and go out and party hard, eat some crazy amount of food, etc. I would be where I want to be by the Triathlon. That’s a very big “if” though. The reason I say I like the results I see is because in the mornings I’m seeing a pretty good 4-pack and can even see the infamous “penis” lines in the morning to some extent.
I haven’t changed anything by my eating, because I still lift 3 days a week with 20 minutes of running after I lift. Then on the other 3 days of the week I run the first day for an hour, then hour and 15 on the 2nd day, and then hour and half on the 3rd day. Come April 1, I’m going to try and bump that up to 1.15 on first, 1.5 on second, and 1.45 on 3rd, because I now have like 1.5 months til I run the 13 miles with a ton of people and on crazy terrain.
Well I need to get some work done! For anyone that cares, Toombs will be in town next Friday for a couple of weeks before he leaves the country again.

Testing…Do I still work? I sure hope so. I know it has been a while since I have posted here, but much like Scott said, burn out from posting the same stuff. Have I quit working out, NO. Have I became less dedicated, NO! I just don’t have as much time as I used to. Working, calling basketball and trying to get ready for a baby take a toll on ya!
Anyway, we have switched gyms and are loving it. We moved from the Exercise Room to the MSU Wellness Center, and it is awesome. Newer, nicer equipment, plenty of space, and an overall better attitude. It is amazing, now it is a treat to workout again, because the facility is so nice. Not to mention we can add some new stuff to our workouts, like Raquetball and basketball. It is also pretty awesome to have a pool at your facility to use.

I apologize to everyone for the delay - I was getting pretty darn burnt out on blogging in general, and with work being very hectic, and trying land a new client and move to KC, I just took some time off.
I did, however, do a decent job of keeping up with some training, working mostly on the bike, since the Katy Trail Ride is coming up in a month or so.
Anyway - we’re back at what is essentially triathlon pre-season training - and that’s exciting. You can bet some good training articles are on the way.
