Quiet around here!

We sure have gotten quiet on this site. I guess we really aren’t doing too much tri-training. I’m training for a marathon, and I don’t like reall posting daily that I ran such and such miles today and lifted and played ball.

I’ll give this update for the past couple of days, and a weight update.

Saturday I ran 11 miles in 1 hour and 4o minutes…so boring!
Sunday I played ball for 1.5 hours to work off some great Chinese!
Monday I lifted on my lunch break and went back after work to do the elliptical like machine that I use for 45 minutes.
Today I have already ran 7 miles in an hour this morning, shot hoops for 10-15 minutes by myself, and will probably go back after work to get in on some pick-up games.

My weight, well this morning when getting in from running, I was at 149 and the scale said 9.5% BF. I know the BF was off, because it doesn’t do well when you have sweated alot, and I know the 149 meant with no water weight. However, in my post last week on Thur or Fri I think it was I was like 151 after a good sweaty run, so this mornings weight has to be comparable to that weight last week.

It’s funny, because I wasn’t to restrictive this weekend. I drank Saturday night and last Thursday night, I ate some sweats on both days, had a big Chinese Buffet on Sunday and Wendys for dinner that night. I thought this weekend would kill me like most normally do, but it didn’t really. I have been coming out of the weekend and then really restricting my calories to counteract what I do on the weekends. Normally on a weekday, I have less than 2000 calories. Like yesterday due to a very busy day with just having to squeeze workouts in between meetings, I didn’t get anything but an apple and some pb and jelly sandwiches for dinner with my normal breakfast, lunch, and snacks and it was around 1500 calories.

I have probably killed a little muscle, but I really can still lift the same that I could a month ago. So I can’t be doing too bad. Once I get finished training for the marathon and 2 tris, I’m going to quit all that for a while and hit the weights mostly. I think I said that last year after the first tri too, haha, but then I got addicted to the tri’s.

My new reason to Run…

While everyone on this site has their own reason to workout, I now have a new reason. I have always said I didn’t want to be an overweight father, so now I have to prove it. Around August 31 of this year, Emily and I will be having a baby. We are both excited about this, and are both starting to prepare for it. My goal will be to get below 2 bills (200 pounds) by the time the baby gets here. Currently I am at 217 or so, so I have a long way to go, but should be able to accomplish it.

As for my training, I have been down a little this week due to a stomach bug, but I am slowly starting to get back into it. I think a weekend in KC will do that to you. There is no telling what you will come home with when you sleep at Craigs house. We are also more than likely going to be changing our gym membership soon, due to the one we use going out of business. Oh well, now I will have a reason to work out with LJ. And see if he has been lying on here about what all he does…yeah right. I just hope he will talk to me when I go there, I know how many chicks he usually hits on while he is there.

New weight hit!

Of course the weight will go back up probably, but I have made it through some plateaus that I didn’t think I could get through. I weighed this morning after getting out of bed and this is without doing any working out and sweating, and I was 151.5. That is probably the lightest I have been since elementary school. I just figured out how to get through my plateaus. I got really strict with my caloric intake and expenditure. I have cut calories this week to around 1800 calories a day, and continued working out hard if not a little harder. The bad thing is that my BF scale still said I was at 12%, so I’m hoping I didn’t eat any muscle. The scale also said I was low on water this morning, so that also makes your BF off some.

Anyhow, I liked the way it looked in the mirror too, so I may stick with this for a couple of months and see about a 145 weight, and what that looks like and then start bulking with lean proteins.

On a side note, I experienced a first last night. Well I went and lifted yesterday morning at 5:30, then back at the gym last night for cycling class from 5-6, played a pick up game of hoops til 6:30, then from 6:30-7:45 I did yoga. Yes, you read correctly Yoga! It was pretty cool and very hard, even with her taking it easy on us for beginners. I found muscles and joints that I didn’t know existed, and got into positions that I didn’t think my body could move into. I’m a little sore today, but last night I slept like a baby because it does relax you. Also, the best part was the tight little booty that was in front of my face all night. At one point I almost reached out and bit it, but I thought about lawsuits. I’m going to keep going for the eye candy and peaceful sleep, but it only goes on Wed. nights and some nights I work.

Holla!

Try 2 workouts in 24 hours with no sleep. Yes, I got up yesterday and ran for 45 minutes and rode for 40 minutes. Then I went out last night with some girls, got home at 3 and decided that it would be harder for me to just wake up at 7 and go to work and then to workout in the evening so I just stayed up til 5 am and hit the gym. I got in a good workout though. I did my full-body weight session, and then hit the elliptical for 50 minutes.

Yes, I’m getting dead tired right now and I still have 3 families to meet with and a campus tour to give for training purposes for the Student Ambassadors. But boy, when I get home at 4 pm today, I’m hitting the couch until about 8 and then doing it all over again tonight.

My week

I don’t have anything exciting, just thought I would update on my week.

Mon: Lifted and played ball for about a total of 5 hours since I was off work.
Tue: Ran 5.5 miles and biked stationary for 11
Wed: Lifted for an hour and ran for 15 minutes and used the Arc Trainer for 15 min.
Today: I went in the morning and ran for 5.5 miles and biked for 40 minutes which was like 14 or so miles.
Friday will be another lifting session and small cardio or ball and then a night out for some fun.
Saturday will hopefully be a run outside since that is the day that I like to get out in the morning and run.

Last week on my Saturday run I found a JC Penny giftcard on the ground and it ended up having 43 dollars left on it. It pays to run!

I love weighing in the morning after doing cardio. I was 152 this morning, haha. The lightest I have ever been. Now if I just wouldn’t eat or drink all day! Well I have continued my working out and since getting a new roommate that goes out more, I’ve actually gone out a little more. We went out Tuesday night and watched a local band, and then a girl just messaged me to see if I was going out tonight because she was…so I may just have to buck up and go out on no sleep. Then I know I’m going out Friday night to watch Collin’s band.

Well that’s all for now! Where in the heck is Keohan? Did he drown?

Freestyle Swimming Errors

Swimming is the most daunting part of a triathlon - and here are few errors that most beginners face - compliments of Active.com:

1. Lifting the head for air. This hurts your body position and leads to use of the arms to “brace” or support the head’s weight, when they should be lengthening the body or “holding on to your place” in the water.
2. Turning only the head for air. This awkward action increases strain and torque in the neck and spine, and hurts your form.
3. Losing your front end. Having the lead hand collapse while breathing is almost universal among unskilled or unbalanced swimmers. When it happens you become less hydrodynamic and much of the propulsive potential of that stroke is lost.

Reading these - I see a numbers of errors I find myself still making - and you’d better bet when I get back in the pool in February - the first month will spent working on these. It’s all about fundamentals!

BF % update

Quick update on me. I have still been hard at working out and stuff. I constantly run and lift, even when my ankle was bad I never let up. Last few days, Friday I ran 11 miles on the treadmill in 1.5 hours just because I got drunk Thurday night and ate pizza and felt I needed a good workout, plus I felt good. Somewhere I read that if you feel good then to keep on running. I was going to go the full 13 miles for a half marathon again, but I had to be at work and this actually made me late. Then Saturday I had to work all day, ate like crap including tons of cookies and then a night at Pattis for free. Sunday I went for a cold, morning run in my neighborhood around 7-7.5 miles in 1.1 hours and then even went to church. Then yesterday I was off work so I spent all day in the gym. I went at 12:15 and lifted til 1:30, then played ball til 3:30, went home and ate and relaxed til 6, went back to the gym to play ball til 8 cause I was bored.

On that Sunday morning run I found a JC Penny giftcard and yesterday I took it to see if it had any money left on it, and it had $43 on it. Also that same morning I had a coyote run about 100 yards out across the road in front of me. This health thing is really cool! haha

Scott I’m not sure about this Katy trail. I was in the shower last night thinking about all this, and man I have been on a bike for over 60 miles before and I think I’m the only one of out of all of us that has done this. I’m telling you now, my butt was sore and that is 1/4 of the distance we will have to travel for this day. I’m willing to do it, but I don’t want it to get in the way of my marathon and triathlons since those are registered, real events. I would be willing to do it in the summer after that triathlon in Owensboro, and only if I can find one crazy pair of biking shorts. I don’t want to not be able to walk for 2 weeks. Maybe break it up over a 48 hour period.

Finally update on BF%, which I’m not sure how accurate my scale it. But weighing the same time and under the same conditions as I did on Dec. 14 when I was 153.5 and 13.5%, I did it this morning 1/17 and I was 153.5 and 12%. So according to that my weight is pretty much the same, but my BF dropped a 1%. Again, not sure how accurate, so I’m more worried about it around June when I want to be at 8%.

Outtie!

So Sweet to be Home…

Well after spending a week away from home, it was great to get back on Friday. Is it bad I was humming the Star Spangled Banner while we crossed the border? Anyway, we accomplished our goal of building the entire first floor of a church building. It was intense work from 8-3:30 Monday thru Thursday. We laid block, moved dirt, had to mix concrete and then wheel barrel it to different places, and then last and most challenging, we had to pour concrete forms using only 5 gallon buckets. We would wheel barrel the concrete to place, then bucket it up 2 sets of scaffolding to the top, and pour it down the form.

I was happy to say though I was by far in the best shape of most the people there. One of the people I work out with every morning went, so we were rolling while everyone else was tiring out. It was amazing, while everyone else was sore to the point of not moving very much, we were just a little tender. Of course we were the only one who utilized the “gym” the hotel had of a morning to stretch out. The only bummer of the trip was when I got sick on Tuesday, and didn’t eat for 2 days pretty much. So I was working on an empty stomach, but it was much better than the other option, which was using the “bathroom” they had on site for us.

Also, it was nice to get some compliments. I am doing this for myself, but every time someone pays me a compliment, it makes it a little easier to get up and go to the gym of a morning. It was also easy this morning, as I kind of missed my gym last week, and was eager to get back at it this morning. Chest and tri’s this morning.

4 days till we leave for KC. I hope Pat and Craig are ready…but I doubt they are.

Been lazy about posting

Sorry guys, I’ve been a little lazy about posting these last few days. Things have been really busy, but I’ve been able to get in the gym pretty regularly regardless. Thankfully, I’m getting a lot better at getting up at 5, which means I have time to get the workout in before work.

The only thing that concerns me is the fact I somehow put on 5lbs this weekend. That makes no sense, since I only had one ‘bad’ meal on Saturday night (birthday dinner with my parents) - so, maybe I’m retaining water for some reason. Oh well - hopefully it will come off this week.

I’m still trying to plan a date for the Katy trail - things keep getting more and more hectic, so I’m going to have to set down a hard date soon. LJ - if you want to suggest a few dates that are good for you, I’ll see if I can match it up. Perhaps Pat will grant a week or two of leniency on the deadline if it means you’d get to join in as well.
