Off the road again

Well I’m off the road again for a week. I took next week as a week in the office just to relax from all the travelling. I have travelled over 1600 miles in 2 weeks, but not on bike this time.

I haven’t missed a beat though on working out. I do resistance training 3 days a week and a lot of cardio on the other days. I didn’t have any time on Wed. to do cardio, but I didn’t miss my resistance training yesterday. I came in off the road and went straight to the gym before going home, because I knew I wouldn’t want to get back out. I’m happy that I haven’t put on any fat during travel season so far. I was at 161 on the scale in the gym yesterday and that was with all my clothes on. As a matter of fact, I have bought a ton of new clothes over the past 2 weeks in STL, and 34 pants are really loose on me. So I may be getting close to a 32 waste, which would be about 8-10 sizes down from this time last year.

Man, I’m addicted to this stuff. Like I’m playing golf with Hensley, Veeny, and Hahn this weekend and I know it’s going to be fun but I also dread it. I know it will be a lot of bad eating and drinking, and then I’ll be 165+ after the weekend with no time to workout. I may just starve myself and drink my meals this weekend. Lookout golf balls!

I may be in on this competition. I’ll have to see the rules. The only reason I say that is because I’m still trying to burn the last of my fat, and its hard to gain muscle mass and lose weight at the same time by eating below maintenance. I’ve increased some muscle, especially legs, but mostly I’m maintaining strength right now and toning up until I’m down to the fat decrease that I want. Then it will be eating above maintenance and lifting like a mule.

I’ll let you know as you get the details worked out.

Contest

Right now Scott and I are working on the details for the contest. They should be posted by this afternoon or tomorrow. Anyone and everyone are invited to compete. We will leave the prize up for grabs, and open that up for everyone in the contest to decide. So keep your eyes and ears open, as we will post about it soon.

Today was a total rest day. We had a house full of guest last night, including baby Naber, so we stayed up a little late playing and watching her sleep. She is so precious. But yesterday was kickboxing, or as I like to call it “Hour of Hades,” so I taking a day off is alright. I am back down to my weight, and actually lost another half pound to get to 224. Only 4 more pounds to go.

On a totally different note, I have been listening to the St. Judes radiothon for the past 2 days at work. Hearing these stories from the kids battling cancer is touching. I have almost broken down at least once an hour for the past 2 days. Maybe we can include that into out mini-competition amongst ourselves. Everyone will pay a 25 dollar entry fee, of which will go to St. Judes. What does everyone think about that?

A proposal

I’d like to propose a little friendly competition for all the folks on this site - I know we all have other projects, like the Katy Trail, races next season, etc…

But we could use a little something to spice things up. Anyone have any ideas?

Stark has got me wanting to get back into weight training some, and I’m looking forward to that - so, I’m thinking we should do something that combines strength and endurance - like maybe a calculation along the lines of a QB passer rating. We could assign points by times on endurance events, coupled with an overall power rating (strength/body weight).

Anyone else interested? We’re all at different levels, but it will be neat to see where we could all be for Christmas. The prize at the end can be something like, we all get together at the winner’s house - and go out for a night on the town, and everyone has to buy beverages for the winner or something.

Let me know what you think.

Tuesday…sucks…

Last night was awesome, but led to a bad Tuesday morning. After a pretty intense day of lifting yesterday, a couple of us from work decided we would play basketball together last night. So we played ball for about 2 hours, which felt awesome. I didn’t get super winded and never really got tired. But then it happened, I woke up this morning sore as crap. I am sure it is because I didn’t stretch out really well last night, but I didn’t think I needed to(insert you calling me stupid here). It also didn’t help I didn’t tie my shoe tight enough, and now I have a huge blister on my 2 smallest toes. So needless to say I didn’t run this morning. I do intend to go this afternoon though.

I did workout though. It was back and biceps today. We continue to plug away at the gym. I re-weighed myself this morning too, thinking yesterday was a fluke, nope still at 226.5…that sucks. Anyway here is what I did, 3 sets of all…
Rows
1 - 100
2- 110
3- 120
Lat pull downs
1 - 110
2 - 120
3 -130
Arm curls individually
1 - 25
2 - 30
3 - 35
Bar curl standing up
1 - 60
2 - 60
3 - 65
The we did more dips…hurt hurt hurt…

I am so pumped about doing something. I would love to one day enter into a body building competition, but that is YEARS away. For now, I want to do a run or bike thing with everyone. Let’s start looking and making plans.

Argh -

After a long, not healthy weekend…motivation is hard to come by.

Good thing I’m getting my bike trainer this weekend.

Any else scoped out some races for next spring/summer yet?

Well after a horrible weekend of eating, I was back at it again this morning. Over the weekend I gained two and a half pounds. I am disgusted. I weighed in on Thursday of last week at 224, only 4 pounds away from the 220 club, and then this morning I weighed in at 226.5 pounds. I was disgusted with myself. So needless to say I am having nothing but lettuce and vegetables all week!

As far as my workout this morning was concerned, it was awesome. I started with a 2 mile fun at a 9 incline on the elliptical machine, which was completed in a little under 20 minutes. I then went and hit the weights for chest and tri’s Monday. Had a great workout here, as I completed 3 sets of 10 on each exercise.
Bench:
1 - 165
2 - 175
3 - 185
Incline:
1 - 115
2 - 125
3 - 135
Cable Chest
1 - 50 pounds each arm
2 - 60 pounds each arm
3 - 70 pounds each arm
Triceps Cables
1 - 110
2 - 120
3 - 130 (all the weight on the machine)
Dips
3 of 10

All in all in was a successful morning, although I was rather depressed to get on the scales and see the results of a horrible weekend. I was doing some reading on Menshealth.com, funny what fitness will do, I use to only read the letters and what not, but now I actually read the fitness articles. Anyway they were talking about ways to cheat in the gym, and how to avoid them. I read them, and noticed I do some of them on the exercises they talk about. Take a read and you might find you do too!

Anyway, that is a long first post. I am looking forward to getting into one of these tri’s or bi’s in the near future.

Finally a post!

Well finally I get to post. Man ever since the race I have been travelling and working non-stop. People are still talking about this tri around here, and I’m ready for the next one. By the way, I figured it out I way exceeded my goal of top half of the race. Hell I looked at it and I finished almost in the top half of the experienced people and in the top 20% of my division.

So anyhow, been hard at training. I didn’t slack off one day. I was back on the treadmill Sunday night in the hotel doing some interval work. Oh yeah, after a bad night Saturday night. I threw down and then ate Huddle House at 3:30 am that morning, yum good.

Well I have worked out everyday this week. Running seems like cakework now, at least on a treadmill. I can do 2.5-3 and not feel any pain at all or be winded. Like yesterday I did a leg workout, then I ran 20 minutes, elliptical 20 minutes, this weird stair thing they have at ballys for 20 mins, and 20 mins of interval work. I’m just addicted to all this. Now I have a personal trainer at Ballys in STL who is going to work with me over the next couple of weeks for a program for me.

Anyhow, catch up time at work!

Congrats Bofe!

I wanted to give a public shout out to Bofe (Andy Hill), who hit his quite impressive goal of swimming 1 mile non-stop recently.

1 mile. non stop. swimming. I’m winded just thinking about it.

Congrats dude - you should be incredibly proud of yourself.

Triathlons are Blowing up.

Just a thought for today -

Triathlons have got to be the fastest growing sport in the U.S. The more people I tell about this, the more people say, “Oh yeah, I know another person that’s running in one, or has run in one, etc….”

How cool is that - we’re on the cutting edge of a popular sport :)

Tri Pics are UP!

So - it takes a really long time to size 50 digital pics and upload them, so I’m just linking to the professional event pics.

Most of them are better anyway:

Me (Scott)
LJ
Brett
Pat/Debbie
Heacox
Heax’s Swim (for real)
LJ’s swim (we think)
Keohan Swim Action
Ford
LJ (Stephens - or, as I like to call him, the guy who ROCKED the bike)

sorry for the staggering here - there are some “lost” pics that aren’t categorized by bib number

Feel free to go to the event home page, and you can browse all of them. I’ll sign any posters that you might buy :)

Anyone else notice Heax looked a little different on the swim? Hahaha!
